Overview of levels BIPA 1 – BIPA 7
Our Indonesian courses are built based on the BIPA curriculum, which is the Indonesian language curriculum for foreigners. This curriculum has seven levels as per Permendikbud number 27 of 2017. The Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) course and training encompasses these seven levels. We
converted the BIPA Leveling into CEFR, which are described in detail below.
Elementary Use of Language
This level denotes basic proficiency in using language for fundamental communication.
A1 - BIPA 1
Able to understand and use expressions in the context of self-introduction and fulfillment of daily and routine concrete
needs in a simple way to communicate with very cooperative speech partners
A2 - BIPA 2
Able to express feelings, describe the surrounding environment, and communicate daily and routine needs.
Independent Language Use
This stage indicates self-sufficient language proficiency.
B1 - BIPA 3
Able to express experiences, expectations, goals, and plans briefly and coherently with reasons in the context of daily life and work tasks
B2 - BIPA 4
Able to report the results of observations of events and express ideas in the topic of their field, both concrete and abstract, quite fluently without obstacles that interfere with the understanding of speech partners.
Autonomous Language Ability
This level signifies self-reliant language skills.
C1 - BIPA 5
Able to understand long and complex texts and able to express ideas with points of view in diverse topics spontaneously
and fluently with almost no constraints. Except professional and academic fields.
C1 - BIPA 6
Able to understand long, complex, and implied texts and be able to express ideas in clear, structured, systematic, and detailed language spontaneously and fluently according to the speech situation for social and professional purposes, except in complex academic fields (scientific work).
C2 - BIPA 7
Able to understand information in almost any field with ease and express ideas spontaneously, fluently, precisely by distinguishing nuances of meaning, and reconstructing arguments and data in coherent presentations.
